After 15 years displaying Tongala’s proud dairy history, the town’s iconic murals had begun to deteriorate.
But luckily, the Tongala Lions Club was not going to let them simply disappear.
After six months of work, the Tongala-Nestle murals, on display at the Nestlé factory on Kyabram-Tongala Rd, as looking better than ever.
At a cost of $18,000 for the murals, generously given by Nestlé, Tongala Lions Club member Murray Ross said it was a great result for the town.
“They are nice, they are bright, and they are another great feature for people to come and see in the town,” he said.

Slow to be NBN ready
The National Broadband Network rollout will provide Kyabram with better, faster and more reliable internet service.
As more and more towns are being signed up for the next stage of the NBN rollout, Kyabram is still yet to receive a time frame for when it will receive the service.
According to local Leading Edge Telecoms’ Paul Dickens, people need to put the national rollout into perspective and have patience during the process.
“It’s disappointing, but it’s a very big project,” he said.
“It’s not that we have been forgotten, it’s just that there is a lot of work getting it done. Kyabram is unfortunately not on a major arterial road and when you look at the plans and the projects you find they generally follow highways as they are being developed.”

Bombers bounce back
Marvellous what a week can mean in footy.
Coming off an almost embarrassing loss to Mansfield the previous week – only their second for the season – the Kyabram Bombers were back in business on Saturday, disposing of last season’s premier Shepparton Swans in ruthless fashion.
And unlike the previous week, when there was hardly a Kyabram player who could hold his head high at the end of the game, this time there were no spectators.
The result was a thumping percentage boosting 95-point win.
On-ballers and forwards often get all the accolades when teams win, but this time it was Kyabram’s defence that took centre stage.
It leaked just two early goals until the Swans kicked their third and final goal for the game with just a few minutes to go.

Local contractor Noel Roberts started work this week, extending the building out to the existing roofline.

“Currently the pool tables have been dismantled and stored, but will be reassembled when the extensions are finished,” Gary said.

Dedicated Daniel making quite an impression
Kyabram’s Daniel Pell is a youngster going places – fast.
The 13-year-old Year 8 student at the Kyabram Secondary College has taken some giant strides, literally, since competing in a fun run at Nathalia a couple of years ago.
Daniel's progress as a middle-distance runner has been so meteoric that he is now a realistic chance to win a Victorian title.
On June17 at Bundoora, he will take on the cream of the state’s young runners over a 4km course in the Victorian Schools Cross Country championship.
Daniel booked his place in the field to contest his title last week when he claimed the Northern Zone final of the event – also at Bundoora.

Link in Kyabram business severed
One of Kyabram’s longest standing businesses has been sold.
Sutherland’s Foodland which has been operating in Allan St since 1913, has been sold to Merrigum grocer Mr Ron Fitzgerald.
Present proprietor Mr Max Sutherland, who has been a grocer for some 42 years, is taking long service leave and plans to “semi retire”.
Mr Sutherland will hand over the business to Mr Ron Fitzgerald at the end of June.
Mr Fitzgerald will continue his business in Merrigum, but will personally manage his new Kyabram venture.

Mick showed the Bombers the way to win
There is not a great deal of him, but if a few more teammates could play the game like him, preparations for those long-awaited premiership celebrations at Kyabram could start immediately.
I’m referring to, in case you weren’t at the Kyabram-Lemnos game on Saturday, the Bombers’ bustling, barging and breathtakingly brilliant back pocket Mick Craven.
It would be ridiculous to suggest Craven won the game for the Bombers, but he played a darned big role in saving it.
An ice-cool customer who never seems to make mistakes, Craven was there when the Bombers needed him most on Saturday, giving his team a giant size boot toward their eighth win for the season.
Craven was the sheet-anchor of Kyabram’s defence, the destroyer of countless Lemnos attacks, and the inspiration behind the Bombers’ “fairy impressive” victory.
