“This is the first step in what could be a long and happy relationship,” Kyabram District Community Bank chair Vincent Curtis said.
This is the first time community groups have partnered like this alongside council to work on community development projects, which Kyabram Development Committee chair Tania Chiswell said was essential to ensure those projects actually got off the ground.
“Because if they’re not community-driven they’re not going to get anywhere,” she said.
For many years the Ky Development Committee has struggled with not having a stable revenue source, Mr Curtis said, relying solely on grant funding.
Having an extra source of funding besides usually means community groups have better luck securing grants, Mr Curtis said.
Ms Chiswell said the grants person on their committee would be looking into securing additional grants from all levels of government.
The Kyabram Place Based Plan states that it is designed to address the priorities of the Kyabram community over the next 10 years to help the town become even more liveable, inclusive, adaptive and resilient.
Ms Chiswell said the development committee was not sure yet which project the money would go to.
