The sun shone at 9.30am on Sunday, January 26, setting the perfect weather for an intimate ceremony for Australia Day.
Community members began to wander into the park on Birdwood Ave and, just before the ceremony began, about 75 people had gathered beneath the trees and rotunda.
There were appearances from many familiar faces who made their way down for the Sunday morning ceremony, including Cr Adrian Weston who was on a tour of Campaspe Shire’s Australia Day events throughout the day.
However, the main event was Cr Luke Sharrock, with his first appearance as a councillor at an Australia Day event.
He spoke to community members about the strength of Australians in fire or flood.
“From our beautiful landscape to our vibrant community, as such as the people out in Stanhope, we’re fortunate to have a strong community spirit,” he said.
Despite a few hiccups in the organising of the event – such as the entertainment dropping out in the final hour – Stanhope Development Committee member Glenda Cowie said she was glad to be able to put on such an event.
Journalist Jemma Jones was in Stanhope to capture the ceremony.
