It’s been 40 years since a 13-year-old Richard Marshall sat cross-legged on the floor of the Kyabram Plaza Theatre, waiting to see if the trailer of Back to the Future really lived up to the hype.

Richard soon realised it was a movie experience like no other.
Now as the movie curator for the theatre, he thought there was no better way to celebrate the cult classic’s 40th anniversary than taking it back to where it all began.
Back to the Future returns to Kyabram Plaza Theatre on Saturday, November 15, celebrating four decades of flux capacitors, hoverboards and mind-bending time travel.
From 7.30pm, buckle up for an unforgettable journey back to 1955 as you join Marty McFly and Doc Brown in their desperate race back to 1985 without altering history forever.
Richard said he’s looking forward to seeing it on the big screen again.
“Back to the Future was a big, big deal back then, and sort of a window into the future.
“They were talking about time travel... you know and all these things that are gonna happen – it was just amazing.
“It was a fantasy world that people could just escape into.”
To promote the screening, theatre volunteer Chris Motton pulled out his superpower: a DeLorean, signed by Michael J. Fox himself.

Traffic came to a halt outside the theatre on Wednesday, November 5 when the Free Press arrived to take photos for this article of the volunteer crew with the DeLorean.
Richard described the moment as absolutely surreal, watching this piece of movie magic sitting right there on Allan St.
“It was seven o’clock in Ky, with both doors of the DeLorean up, and every car that passed slowed to get pictures or even stopped and parked,” Richard said.
“It’s a real novelty.”
The DeLorean will be back on Allan St on Wednesday, November 12 for those who want to snap a picture with the famous car.
