Father and son duo Geoff and Doug Halpin have been running the business since 1998, carting water, machinery and livestock.
“We started off with an F-150 and a float,” Geoff said.
“We used to cart livestock, and in later years, we’ve got into carting cattle.
“We purchased our tanker in December 2006, and we have been involved in that quite heavily.”
Halpin Transport has carted water throughout the shire and even became Longwood’s main water supplier.
From pools to pipes to potable water, Halpin Transport’s water tanker has got it covered.
During the floods in 2022, Geoff and Doug were on call delivering potable water to affected areas.
“You’d think we cart water, we’d be dead quiet in floods,” Doug said.
“Believe it or not, we’re the exact opposite. We were flat-out busy.”
“The phone just didn’t stop ringing,” Geoff said.
Geoff said that when they started carting water, the people calling for the service inspired them to get heavily involved.
“We were probably looking for something to add in the mix,” Geoff said.
“We’ve already had chippers and tippers, so we’re just sort of expanding that side of it.
“That’s part of the thing ... you’re in a business, you sort of look (for) ways to start your business.”
Now, Halpin Transport has three trucks that travel locally and interstate to cart water and machinery, spread fertiliser and more.
Geoff says Halpin Transport is always on the go, ready to serve the community.
“Keep doing what we’re doing,” Geoff said.
“Just take care of the business and take care of the people.”
