In the recent annual challenge, the GV came home strong to defeat Ovens and Murray and again hoist the winning shield.
It is the third consecutive year Goulburn Valley has claimed the crown and chairman James McLeod was rapt with the side’s performance at Benalla.
‘‘It was a very good feeling, everyone gelled together and we got over the line,’’ he said.
‘‘I think the three wins is just that combination of the teams and once again everyone gelling and supporting one another, it’s a fantastic effort.’’
Paul Nichols skipped the largest rink win, taking out his contest 24-12 in a team where the Shepparton Park coach combined with Rob George (Kyabram), Conner Trewen (East Shepparton) and Josh Warren (Shepparton Park).
The GV trailed early in the match, gradually working its way in front as it retained a single figure lead for much of the game.
With 25 ends remaining, the side was seven shots ahead before extending the margin to enjoy a 123-105 triumph.
The greens were a touch heavy in the morning due to the rain, but McLeod said as the grass dried out, the GV began to excel.
‘‘We were behind at the beginning, but when the greens dried out our guys fired up and came back with a charge,’’ he said.
‘‘Towards the last five ends on each rink everyone and came home firing.’’
Even the Goulburn Valley’s officials rink prevailed against their counterparts and McLeod revelled in the fantastic summer it had been so far for the region after it took out the Norm Knopp Shield in October.
‘‘The Goulburn Valley has had a very good year and now we’re topping it off with the men’s Ovens and Murray challenge win,’’ he said.
The GVBD took a break across the Christmas period before Saturday pennant competition resumes on January 12.
