This is your chance to join the Fischer Leadership Program in 2025 and lead impactful change.
The Fischer Community Leadership Program will be delivered in Howlong from late February 2025, offering an accessible and practical opportunity for locals to strengthen their ability to achieve outcomes that benefit their communities.
First delivered as a pilot in 2022, over 70 individuals from across the Federation and Greater Hume Council areas have graduated from the program, bringing fresh perspectives and energy to community-led initiatives.
With 100% of recent graduates reporting they agreed or strongly agreed that they developed new skills to support their community roles, the program’s success in building local leadership capability is evident.
“This program equips individuals with the confidence, knowledge, and tools to operate meaningfully within their communities,” said Program Coordinator, Mary Hoodless.
“It’s about empowering people to create outcomes that truly matter to the places they live, work, and play.”
Graduates of the program have gone on to deliver initiatives such as the Corowa Park Run, the Brocklesby School Playground Upgrade Fundraiser, and the Henty Streetscape Celebration.
These projects reflect the diverse and meaningful contributions participants have made to their communities.
Justin Clancy MP, Member for Albury praised the program’s influence and outcomes.
“The Fischer Community Leadership Program is an outstanding opportunity for people in our community prepared to put their hand up and have a go,” Mr Clancy said.
“It is about providing practical skills to make a positive difference and has already created a pipeline of community leaders aiming to strengthen our communities and see them thrive.
“I encourage those passionate about making a difference to step forward and apply.”
Participants in the 2025 program will explore topics such as effective communication, community engagement, strengths-based approaches, and community projects.
The program culminates in a celebration event in early April, where participants will pitch their own community project ideas, showcasing their creativity and dedication to making a difference.
The program is supported by Greater Hume Council, Federation Council, auspiced by Border Trust, and delivered by Alpine Valleys Community Leadership, through funding by the New South Wales Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.
It is an inclusive opportunity for people aged 18 and over, from all walks of life.
