Kyabram has been included in the Australian tour of a renowned Indonesian choir and will host two concerts next week.
Hohidiai Choir, from Indonesia, will be performing at the Kyabram Community Church on Monday, April 17 and at Warramunda on Tuesday, April 18.
In total, they will spend three days in the town after former Melbournites Peter and Esther Scarborough, who have been living in Indonesia since 2001, contacted Tongala church leader Peter Costello to see if any churches would like to have a visit from the choir.
The choir is from Halmahera Island, in the north-east of the country among the Maluku Islands.
The result of the Kyabram connection to the choir will be performances in the town, including traditional dance and a sharing of their stories in the next week.
They will appear at Warramunda Nursing Home at 1.30pm on Tuesday, April 18. The Kyabram leg of the choir’s 2023 Australia tour will also include a free performance at Community Church in Kyabram on Monday, April 17 at 7.30pm.
Hohidiai is where a group of us visited in 2016 on a missions trip with World Share and they have an orphanage, day clinic, hospital and school there.
The choir is a talented, energetic and uplifting group, where people can expect to experience a performance filled with traditional Indonesian dances, testimonies from the youth and English and Indonesian songs.
Mr Costello said the church was excited to be included in the tour.
“There will be an opportunity for people to support the choir through purchasing their Indonesian merchandise,” Mr Costello said.
