The major milestone marks the foundation of one of regional Victoria’s most respected family-run automotive businesses.
Taking over in 1985, the McIlroys stepped into the dealership’s modest facilities with nine staff members.

“When I retired, our company operated sites across Kyabram, Benalla, Mansfield, Wangaratta and Yarrawonga, with around 90 people working for us,” John said.
“Jan and I are proud of what we achieved in our 38 years.”
In 1987, the business adopted the Jayell Ford name, inspired by John and Jan’s shared middle initial, ‘L’.
Strong growth saw the company acquire two blocks of land on Bradley St in 1994, followed by the construction of a new showroom in 1996.
Ford racing legend Glen Seton attended the showroom opening, bringing his 1996 EF Falcon for display.

The early years also marked the beginning of dealer principal Ashley McIlroy’s automotive career, starting in the dealership’s spare parts department.
“It has been a pleasure to serve Kyabram and district over the last 40 years, and we thank the many customers who have supported Jayell Ford through this time,” Ashley said.
The dealership’s expanded network later forged a successful partnership with the Jacob Group of Companies, with both groups now employing over 500 people in regional Victoria and NSW.
As Jayell Ford commemorates four decades in business, the dealership acknowledged its loyal customers, dedicated staff and community partners who have been part of the journey.
Newly appointed general manager Steven Rouessart said he looked forward to continuing its legacy.
“As we celebrate 40 years, my focus is on strengthening that experience even further for the next generation of Ford owners across Kyabram and the region,” he said.
