On Sunday, May 18, the Kyabram Pony Club presents Freshmans Showjumping, a fun-filled day when young riders and budding show jumpers can dip their toes into the competition world with minimal pressure and maximum enjoyment.
This event welcomes riders of all ages and skill levels, whether they're pony club members or not, along with their equine partners.
Kyabram Pony Club secretary Amanda Morton said the event presented the perfect opportunity for the greenest of horses to ease into jumping, and for kids to get a taste of what it was like as well.
“The course will be set up like a horse jumping course. It is great for little ones that haven’t gone to a competition and they can get that vibe of what it is like,” she said.
A judge will be there to watch and give professional feedback, so kids can learn how to improve.
“It is for all levels of experience … for people who have just gotten a horse and want to see what it’s about … or for someone with more experience,” Ms Morton said.
Riders can enjoy up to five rounds, tackling various jump heights and navigating the course.
The day will begin with beginner-friendly 30cm jumps, increasing in height every hour.
By afternoon, more experienced riders can test their skills on 70cm jumps.
Ms Morton said she was looking forward to seeing everyone out there having fun and learning.
“I’ve got my kids competing, so I’m looking forward to seeing the kids go around and seeing the smiles on their faces,” she said.
Rounds are $8 each and there will be a $10 admin fee to enter at the secretary’s office.
The office will open at 7am for an 8am walk around the course and an 8.30am commencement of rounds.
