No, the Kyabram Chamber of Commerce has not disbanded.
The chamber is a prominent community group in Kyabram, responsible for yearly events such as the Spring Market, formerly the Bush Market, and the 12 Days of Christmas promotions.
It is known for bringing together businesses along Allan St to work towards building a more sustainable tourism and business sector.
While membership has not been as strong in recent years, the committee is looking to change that.
Chamber committee member Bron Vick said the chamber was far from done and dusted.
“(The chamber) have had a good history with good leaders and we’re definitely going to continue with it,” Mrs Vick said.
“There’s been a bit of negative talk throughout the community about whether (the chamber) is going to fold because we’re not active ... but we’ve had a few meetings with a very enthusiastic group of retailers and it’s definitely going ahead and not folding.”
The committee is looking for fresh faces to bring Kyabram’s CBD into the future; and specifically, is looking for a president and secretary to take charge.
But, those individuals don’t have to own a business.
“It can just be someone that is community-minded, and wants to become a little bit more involved in some way and can use their skills,” Mrs Vick said.
She said the chamber met about eight times a year to discuss business in Kyabram and organise its two yearly events.
“We’re an important group in town and we want to continue … there’s quite a few businesses in the main street that aren’t members … so this is an invitation to join,” she said.
“We want to be able to continue to work with the Shire of Campaspe to keep Kyabram vibrant.”
To join the chamber, attend the annual general meeting on Wednesday, October 22 at 6pm at M&S Accounting and RSVP via email to kyabramcc82@gmail.com
