As one of the many businesses pushed up against the ropes by COVID-19, the bakery has been forced to introduce and remodel several services just to stay afloat.
But it’s not all bad news; Mrs Napier said they had learnt some valuable lessons that were sure to serve them well in the future.
“Diversifying has been the key … out of every negative we try to take a positive and out of this we’ve found we can build on our business for our customers and the services we offer,” she said.
“Our customers have been really good with coming to us with ideas, because when you’re in the business and running the business, you don’t always think outside of the square.”
One of Kyabram Bakery’s biggest inclusions is its delivery service, allowing anyone within 30 km to get their fix of baked goods, snacks and coffee.
“Within the town boundary we offer free delivery for any order over $10 … and anything outside of that is a $5 delivery fee,” Mrs Napier said.
“It feels good to be able to provide that service to our customers.”
COVID-19 has also pushed the Napiers to rethink where they source their ingredients, and they now only use 100 per cent Australian ingredients.
Mrs Napier said the move had not only been a hit with customers but had encouraged other businesses to do the same.
“We were contacted by a councillor in Shepparton who wanted more information … and one of our packaging companies is going to go all-Australian as well,” she said.
“It’s important to us to support as much local produce as we can … it’s easy just to get something from China — it’s cheap and readily available — but we want to source Australian stuff.
“It’d be great if everyone in Kyabram did it; but us as a business, that’s what we’re focusing on at the moment.”
