Most of the Garden Club’s existing members are well acquainted with the various categories and rules of the exhibits on the competition tables. But for newer members and visitors it can be a bit daunting knowing which category to place your exhibits into. The stewards and existing members can help you with your exhibit. So just bring along a flower, cutting or pot plant and members will help you with advice regarding your exhibit. With the spring about to arrive we should have competition tables overflowing with roses, irises and spring bulbs.
The competition table results for the August meeting.

Some good news is that the three-day bus trip to Hamilton now has at least 30 participants, making the trip a break-even situation. The deposit of $200 is to be paid at next Friday’s meeting. More participants are very welcome. For more details contact Steve Graham on (03) 5859 0296.
The club’s September committee meeting was held earlier in the month. Most of the time was taken up with our Flower Display to be held at the Senior Citizens club rooms on Lake Rd on Friday, October 28.
Marg Mason has been very busy arranging special attractions for the day. The Floral Art competition will be one of the highlights with prize money of first $50, 2nd $30, 3rd $20. There is no particular theme for the floral art competition so the entrants can create their favourite masterpieces. The club is relying on members to grow, borrow, beg, or steal pots and flowers for the exhibition especially pots with rare plants. Traditionally the trading table has been a great fund raiser for the day.
The club is sharing the proceeds of the day with the Kyabram and District Dementia Group that supports individuals and families touched by dementia in the local community. We will need plenty of workers on the day and jobs will be allocated at our October meeting which will be a week earlier than usual on October 21.
The Kyabram Show is on again after a two-year break on October 15 and organisers would appreciate the support of club members for their flower and produce section. Entries to the flower pavilion must be in by 10.30am on Friday, October 14.
The guest speaker for next Friday’s meeting is Anton Gustav from Rochester. Anton has spent a lifetime growing cacti and succulents and he will also have a range of plants for sale. He will be happy to answer all your questions regarding cacti and succulents. He also specialises in growing iris.
The floral art theme for Friday is “Bulbs in Bloom”. We look forward to seeing you all on Friday, September 23, at Parkland Golf Clubs starting at 1.30pm.
Happy gardening and keep weeding.
