Practice manager Amelia Carroll said the addition of the new members was a win for patients and the clinic.
“It’s really good, we’re really excited to welcome Jess and Shivani,” she said.
“We want to give our patients as many options as possible so they don’t have to travel far to access resources.”
Beginning last week, Kyabram local Dr Jess Hetherington, who has been practising as a general practitioner for over 12 years, will visit the clinic fortnightly.
Dr Hetherington specialises in all pregnancy care, including pre-pregnancy appointments, pregnancy planning and postnatal care, as well as contraception and cervical screening appointments.
“I’m excited to be working in the Kyabram area again and starting a new journey here,” she said.
“Being able to offer local women services they might often have to have travelled for will be great.”
The clinic also introduced Dr Shivani Thakur. Having been a doctor for 10 years, Dr Thakur originally practised in India and soon found her calling in regional clinics, with experience working in Ballarat and Tasmania.
Making the move from Melbourne last year, Dr Thakur said the community in Kyabram had been incredibly welcoming.
“It’s going really well, people are so friendly and the practice is easygoing, so I’m really enjoying it,” she said.
“It’ll be great to get to meet more people and service the community.”
Dr Thakur has interests in a range of specialities, including women’s and children’s health, sexual health, mental health, dermatology and skin cancer, and chronic illnesses.
