Mr Gordon brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role having worked in the zoological industry for 12 years at attractions including Australia Zoo, Cairns Safari Park, Cairns Tropical Zoo and Paradise Country.
Since 2016, he has been park curator of Oakvale Wildlife Park in New South Wales.
“I’m extremely eager and excited to take on the role and help grow this terrific attraction to ensure its success now and into the future,” Mr Gordon said.
“I’m looking forward to working with the passionate and talented team at the park as well as the local community to help it grow and prosper.
“The park has a strong history of conservation and environmental education, and during my career I’ve been actively involved in threatened, vulnerable and endangered species breeding programs as well as conservation-based research programs, so there’s a real synergy there.”
Mr Gordon said he had worked with more than 300 species and thousands of animals in the past 12 years and was keen to get to know the park’s animals and develop the collection.
“The fact the park is so well loved by the local community was a major selling point when I considered applying for the role, along with the opportunity to work alongside some of the greatest minds in the Victorian zoo industry,” he said.
“As well as a terrific tourist attraction for visitors, the park is an important economic asset for Kyabram and the region.
“I’m committed to using my experience, skills and passion to work with the park’s staff, local community and committee of management to cement its reputation as a great zoological facility.”
Chair of the Kyabram Fauna Park committee of management Marg Allan said the committee was delighted to appoint Mr Gordon to the role.
“We are very pleased we’ve been able to attract a manager of Lachlan’s calibre,” Ms Allan said.
“We were impressed with his experience and his ideas about how we can continue to ensure the park is viable into the future, and we look forward to working with him to develop the park.”
