Lorraine Liverton is parting with her long locks to help restore confidence and a smile to a child.

The Kyabram resident is participating in Hair with Heart, a national program run by Variety, which turns donated hair and funds into wigs for children who have lost their hair to cancer, alopecia, or other medical conditions.
After years of growing her hair, Lorraine was inspired to shave her head after a friend underwent a deep brain stimulation surgery earlier this year, which required her head to be shaved.
She was also moved by a story about a young student facing bullying due to hair loss.
“I actually saw on the news that a little girl was getting bullied because she didn't have hair, so then her brother got it all shaved off,” Lorraine said.
She felt inspired to help, knowing that while her own hair would eventually grow back, a child's confidence could be changed for ever.
Lorraine said she thought the opportunity would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The community is invited to come along as Julie’s Hair Studio’s Lilly Holden does the honours of shaving Lorraine’s hair at 6pm on Saturday, November 7 at the Kyabram Club.

Tickets are $40 per person, which includes nibbles, a main meal and dessert. The evening will also feature raffles and prizes to help raise additional funds.
