Lucky escape after driver swerves to avoid dog at Stanhope

Stanhope police Leading Senior Constable Frank Scopelliti said the driver, a 59-year-old Stanhope man, was travelling west on Hill Rd when a dog ran out on to the road.

He said the driver swerved to miss the dog and the car flipped on to its side and crashed between Johnson and Girgarre-Rushworth Rds.

The driver had minor injuries, with small lacerations to his hands, and was taken by ambulance to Goulburn Valley Health for observation, Leading Sen Constable Scopelliti said.

The vehicle was extensively damaged, and the dog was not found at the scene, he said.

Leading Sen Constable Scopelliti said this was a timely reminder to “be careful” when driving at night and around animals.

He said it was also a reminder for property owners to keep their fences secured so animals did not escape on to roads.
