He did, however, explain that when the organisation made a decision on a potential restaurant development “they moved very swiftly”.
Kyabram, as it does in many similar situations, again finds itself as ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ in regard to the presence of a McDonald’s restaurant.
There are stores at Mooroopna, two at Shepparton, another at Echuca and a fourth regional store will soon be built in Moama.
Mr Moller has the inside running on the Moama store, which is expected to be operational before Christmas on a Perricoota Rd site alongside the Woolworths shopping complex (almost adjacent to the Moama Recreation Reserve).
Mr Moller was contacted when McDonald’s made a decision to expand into Moama.
He told the Free Press that whenever there was a significant development occurring in the region a new McDonald’s restaurant was always mentioned.
“The Echuca West service station development, which now includes a Bowser Bean, was rumoured to be a McDonald’s,” he said.
“That could have just been an overly excited developer.”
The Free Press has been unable to ascertain whether McDonald’s real estate representatives have made contact with local agents in regard to potential sites for the “rumoured’’ restaurant.
Deniliquin and Kyabram are almost exactly the same size, in relation to population, which could be a pointer to a positive outcome for the district in regard to the arrival of a McDonald’s restaurant in Kyabram.
At the 2016 census, Deniliquin’s population was listed at 7862, while Kyabram at the same time had a 7331-person head count.
Mr Moller said there was “no perfect size town’’ for a McDonald’s restaurant, but it was fair to say the decision was made somewhat on the basis of traffic flow and population.
“It would also have a lot to do with town planning. That is another factor McDonald’s would take into consideration,” he said.
The impending arrival of 200-plus homes at The Edge Estate and a number of other residential developments on the outskirts of the town may be a catalyst for the town’s first major fast food outlet.
Mr Moller suggested other factors that could contribute to a decision on a McDonald’s expansion would be the number of visitors to the area, and surrounding population which was reliant on the town for services.
“Deniliquin has strong farming and tourism industries, which will have influenced the decision of McDonald’s,” he said.
