Trouble is, 2021 still suffered and was much interfered with by COVID-19.
One thing that was immensely successful for us in 2021 was our Red Shield Appeal. Held annually in May, the local community dug deep and donations exceeded our expectations. Nearly half of it will support `Christmas Cheer’: toys, hampers and vouchers made available to those in need. What we were not able to do this year is celebrate with a meal together. Have no doubts, with funds generously donated, we are planning a special event mid-year in 2022.
Without embarrassment to any, I would like to thank all (in particular Red Shield major donators Rotary and Ray White Real Estate), as they will make a mid-year Christmas lunch and gift giving day very special.
A big thanks to KHub for supporting Christmas Cheer by gathering presents from well wishers who want to give a bit of joy to others not so fortunate.
Another success story was the revamp of the shop. Things were changed around, new shelving, visual displays, painting and access were all upgraded. To cap it off, a major clean-up out the back also took place.
Arriving nearly a year ago, it has felt difficult to get things started. Groups such as Home League and fellowship are still on hold. The only thing we started new was music/meal night on Thursdays but even that was erratic and unpredictable.
In the background, heading into 2022, there is another venture I am hoping will come to fruition. We have some funds that I would like to use in building a new shower/laundry block for winter use of the homeless. Service clubs have been called in for assistance in this. A lack of affordable respectable housing is unobtainable for our most vulnerable. We hope to change that.
But first we must get through Christmas. As the time approaches we make plans for gatherings, school holidays, work breaks, travel, family, cleaning and cooking.
None are meant to miss out in His story. Find out more by planning to visit a church, revisit the Christmas story, or celebrate Christmas as it is meant to be — focused on the birth of the Saviour. (2 Corinthians 9:15)
Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!
You cannot buy what Christ offers — it is a free gift. All you need do is accept it.
