The opening weekend of the new Moira Shire Council initiative on the foreshore in Yarrawonga saw participants of all ages take part in the differing aspects of creativity and art with locals and visitors alike taking part in dance, play, singing, celebration and appreciation.
The festival which highlights the talent of artists began last Friday with the Our People, Our Environment exhibition opened with a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony.
Other events that took place over the weekend included a ceramics workshop, a dj entertaining the crowd, a silent disco, Across the Arts Takeover, local singers, dancing, drumming, a workshop on Sustainable Design, Seniors art Exhibition, stroytime with GV Libraries, lunchtime meditation and classical music.
Moira Shire Mayor Libro Mustica said that the festival is a fantastic initiative to get people out and about, trying new skills, participating in art and culture activities across the whole shire.
“We couldn’t be more pleased with the turn out and support each of the activities received, particularly on the Monday public holiday with more than 100 people drumming and dancing and looking at the wonderful works of art,” Cr Mustica said.
“I want to particularly thank the artists who contributed their wonderful artwork to be a part of the exhibition and also the artists and community groups who are leading the various activities.
“Without their efforts, support and encouragement, events like this would not be possible.
“Visit council’s website for all the details on activities and events at the three remaining festival locations.”
The festival wrapped up in Yarrawonga on Wednesday before moving onto Nathalia next week and Cobram and Numurkah leading into July.
