During her visit, Minister Horne met with the Moira Shire Council Panel of Administrators on the progress of Moira Shire and discussed the future direction and priorities.
Details will be made public in early 2024 which will provide the framework for those high-level priorities.
One of the highlights of the visit included a tour of the Yarrawonga Town Hall and library construction site, where Minister Horne received updates on their progress.
Minister Horne also took the time to meet with Moira Shire staff at the Cobram offices and Yarrawonga Service Centre. The minister commended the shire for its progress and commitment to various projects.
“It was great to meet hard-working council staff at Yarrawonga and Cobram and to see first-hand the progress being made at Yarrawonga Town Hall and the library precinct,” Minister Horne said.
“Moira is a vital part of Victoria and we’ll continue to support the community and the shire administrators as they do their important work.” Minister Horne added.
Chair Administrator John Tanner expressed gratitude for the minister’s visit, emphasising the importance of collaboration to achieve shared objectives.
“Minister Horne’s visit underscores the importance of working together to drive local projects forward and enhance road safety,” stated John Tanner.
The minister, acknowledging the issues facing our community in road safety, convened a meeting of key personnel, including the Executive Director Loddon Mallee and Hume at the Department of Transport and Planning, Anthony Judd and TAC CEO Tracy Slatter.
Positive conversations were also held regarding the minister’s and TAC CEO Tracy Slatter’s support and encouragement for a Moira Shire Road Safety campaign, which would include a local awareness campaign on driver behaviour in collaboration with the community. This pilot program could be rolled out across other municipalities.
Discussions also covered the allocation of Road Safety funding from the Transport Accident Commission (TAC); Moira Shire received $100,000 for the Nathalia Safer Pedestrians Project and $30,000 for the Moira Shire Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan.
John Tanner further emphasised, “This funding will significantly contribute to advancing our road safety initiatives and ensuring the well-being of our community members.”
The minister also took the opportunity to announce that Chair Administrator John Tanner has been extended until early 2024 to finalise priorities, ensure continued stability, and facilitate a smooth transition for the Panel of Administrators, underscoring John’s dedication and the positive impact he has had on our Shire.
“Moira Shire looks forward to continued collaboration with Minister Horne and appreciates the ongoing support from the State Government in advancing local projects and initiatives,” Mr Tanner said.
