Benalla, Cobram, Echuca, Kyabram, Numurkah and Tatura are among 70 Victorian communities selected for upgrades, with eligible premises expected to be ready to connect by December 2030.
The expansion aims to provide faster, more reliable internet connections with greater capacity to support growing data use and future digital needs.
NBN chief development officer, regional and remote, Gavin Williams said reliable, high-capacity connectivity was an essential part of everyday life.
“For customers, full fibre means access to NBN’s fastest, most reliable and resilient residential technology, helping provide the capacity, reliability and performance needed to support everyday activities now and into the future,” he said.
“More than 1.3 million homes and businesses across the state can now access fibre through NBN’s upgrade programs, and this investment will help extend those benefits.
“These additional fibre upgrades will help ensure more Victorians can access the connectivity they need to participate in an increasingly digital economy, support local businesses and communities, and take advantage of future opportunities.”
The towns identified for upgrades are currently served by NBN’s fixed wireless network.
As eligible homes and businesses move to full fibre, demand on the fixed wireless network is expected to ease, freeing up capacity for those who continue to rely on it.
The expansion is being delivered through NBN’s partnership with the Victorian Government under the Connecting Victoria program, which has brought fibre upgrades to more than 100,000 premises.
Combined with NBN’s broader network upgrade programs, more than 1.3 million Victorian homes and businesses previously served by copper and wireless technologies can now access full fibre.
Shepparton and Mooroopna already have access to NBN full fibre.
