Pancake Day set for February 25

THE Kyabram Uniting Church is gearing up for its annual Pancake Day tea on February 25, with all proceeds to go towards bushfire relief.

Since 2002, Pancake Day has raised over $2 million for the most vulnerable and marginalised individuals and groups across Victoria and Tasmania.

This year, funds will be donated to the Uniting Church Emergency Fencing Team in Benalla, a not-for-profit organisation that works to rebuild fences for those with low or no insurance.

Co-ordinator Marj Brisbane said without fences farmers would be unable to rebuild their livelihoods even after the fire season was over.

“Usually the funds have gone to families in crisis but this year we felt this is a real crisis. The farmers can’t keep livestock in without fences,” she said.

“Even if it’s just a boundary fence it’ll make a big difference.

“It’s also a great bit of fellowship. You bring your neighbours and friends along, sit down and have tea together and you’re helping a good cause.”

Entry is $10 per adult and $20 for families, which comes with two pancakes in either sweet or savoury.

The Pancake Day tea will be held at the United Church Hall on February 25 from 6 pm.
