It was a real buzz to be at the Finley Lake jetty over the weekend with the 2024 NSW Country Championships being hosted by the Southern Riverina Model Power Boat Club.
Secretary/treasurer Craig Knight said he was delighted with the response, even though numbers were down slightly.
There were 24 competitors with 110 boats taking part in the 17 classes, which proved very entertaining for both owners and spectators.
Craig has been involved in model boats for about 30 years.
Fourteen year-old Kobie Sydenham from Tamworth was delighted to have his 27 Tunnel boat in the circuit race as he has been interested in model boats since he was seven.

Local consultant agronomist John Lacy can be very proud of his story published in The Land newspaper last month, describing his success in the industry and his current project of preparing a doctoral thesis as part of his PhD he is undertaking at Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga.
John has been a consultant agronomist in Finley for the past 13 years, after being employed by the NSW Department of Agriculture/Department of Primary Industries as district agronomist until 2003.
He became interested in involving farmers in experimenting with methods to increase yields of wheat and rice in the area.
He is well known in the industry for starting what he called the ‘Five Tonne Irrigated Wheat Club’ with farmers he had assisted while employed with the DPI.
The aim was to double the outcome of crops.
Because of this success, the wheat club and other winter cropping groups continue to this day.
John has been working on his thesis for the past two and a half years and expects to take another two years to finish his PhD.
The full story, written by Stephen Burns, can be found in the January 11 edition of The Land.
