Police were called to an incident at a residential address in Cahill Court, Yarrawonga last Saturday, April 27 where it is alleged a 25-year-old Yarrawonga male smashed in the front door and forced his way into the property, where he located and punched the known male occupant to the face, causing significant injuries to the victim’s teeth.
The victim was conveyed to hospital and the offender was shortly after arrested, interviewed, and charged with a number of offences, including aggravated burglary, criminal damage, intentionally causing injury and threats to kill. He was bailed to appear at the Wangaratta Magistrates Court on June 24, 2024.
Kangaroo collision causes car fire
Yarrawonga Police attended a car fire on the Katamatite-Shepparton Road at 11.45pm on Sunday, April 28. The 46-year-old female driver and her 16-year-old son were travelling north when a large kangaroo jumped out in front of their vehicle. The kangaroo collided with the vehicle, and the driver pulled over and observed her car to be smoking. Not long after the occupants exited, the car then caught fire. Two CFA vehicles attended the scene and extinguished the vehicle which was completely destroyed. The driver and her son were not injured, and the vehicle is thankfully insured.
Operation Tribute
Operation Tribute targeting traffic, drug and alcohol-related driving offences was conducted statewide from ANZAC Day until midnight Sunday, April 28. The operation in the Yarrawonga area saw 398 preliminary breath tests conducted and 10 penalty notices issued which included five for speeding.
Yarrawonga Powerboat Spectacular and Fair
The ANZAC Day weekend also saw the Yarrawonga Powerboat Spectacular being held on Lake Mulwala. It was highly successful and well attended by the public with approximately 20,000 through the gates over the weekend. Police were very happy with the behaviour of all those who attended.
