Despite all the hurdles, Dr Malhotra has been resilient and determined to continue his journey.
On Friday, he planned to walk from Coree to Jerilderie, but due to the heavy rain those plans had to change.
Dr Malhotra was picked up by his support team and driven to Jerilderie.
“It’s not safe to walk in those conditions; the traffic can’t see me, and I’d be putting my own health at risk,” he said.
While in Jerilderie, Dr Malhotra visited the Jerilderie Hospital and social club, where he met with several people who donated generously to his cause.
He expressed his gratitude and said the donations would help him achieve his goal of raising $100,000 for the McGrath Foundation.
He was also able to get some dressing and bandages for his feet, which enabled him to get back on the road once the storm conditions settled.
Dr Malhotra set off again about 5.30pm Friday towards Bindawalla, and it was not long before there was another hurdle.
On Sunday, when between Bindawalla and Urana, his support crew’s van broke down just 3km outside of Urana.
It forced an unexpected overnight stop in Narrandera while the van was fixed.
Dr Malhotra is expected to arrive in Lockhart this afternoon, where there will be a changeover of his support crew.
The end goal for the McGrath Foundation champion is the Sydney Cricket Ground on January 3 for the Pink Test, after leaving Melbourne on October 29.
