Kicking goals: Kyabram Football Netball Club star Kyle Mueller has kicked another goal for his club, being adjudged the monthly winner for June in WorkSafe Victoria's Footy’s Favourite Farmer competition. The 26-year-old was nominated mainly for his efforts in last year’s floods. They destroyed most of his grain crops but then, with the help of his father Brad, Kyle put his energy into saving a neighbour’s stranded flock of sheep in a painstaking exercise over nearly three weeks. With only 0.8mm registered over the last four days of June, Kyabram finished the month with 102.4mm, second only to 1991 when 109mm was recorded. These two years are the only times rainfall has exceeded 100mm for June since Kyabram weather records were first recorded in 1887.
Resilient Rochester
Resilient Rochester has won the battle to secure a $1.4 million lighting project at Moon Oval after Campaspe Shire had a change of heart.
Originally knocking back a bid to secure funding for the Rochester Recreation Reserve Management Committee project, the shire has now committed $306,000 from next year’s budget.
The project is now fully funded and work on installing the 300 lux lighting system is expected to start when the Goulburn Valley League’s season ends in September.
Crash at Strathallan
Three people were taken to Bendigo Health after a two-car collision at the corner of O’Dea and Echuca-Nanneella roads at Strathallan last Thursday.
A female driver in her late teens is reported to have driven through the intersection controlled by give way signs about 8am. She suffered upper body injuries.
Male occupants aged 19 and 30 of the second car, which was travelling south, were also taken to hospital.
Farm worker killed
A farm worker lost his life in a farming accident at Nathalia on June 23.
The 38-year-old died after being crushed while working on a skid steer loader.
WorkSafe is investigating the man’s death at the Sclyers Rd property.
It is the 28th confirmed workplace fatality for 2023

Road death service
Moira Shire Council has honoured those who have died in accidents on its roads in a service attended by council staff, students, emergency service personnel and relatives of those who have died.
The catalyst for the memorial was the loss of five lives including local woman Debbie Markey in an accident on the Murray Valley Hwy near Strathmerton earlier this year.
Hall of Fame honour
A footballing great hailing from Mathoura has been inducted into the Queensland Hall of Fame.
After an illustrious 350-game playing career with Mathoura in which he tasted premiership glory, Michael McCormick remained heavily involved in the game when he moved to Queensland more than 40 years ago.
Among many roles, including coaching, he was instrumental in the formation of the Queensland State League in 1996.
Cattle sales resume
Finley cattle sales resumed last week much to the relief of cattle farmers, agents and livestock transport operators.
Worksafe Health and Safety issues which caused the close of the cattle sales have been addressed.
