W. Flower added to his string of road race victories this season with Echuca Cycling Club when he convincingly won Saturday’s 15-mile event.
Flower and promising junior I. Williams overhauled K. Foster about half a mile from the line and in the home sprint Flower was too powerful, flashing past the line with 2.5 lengths to spare over Williams, with Foster an equal distance away in third position.
P. Brodribb was first to leave the starting point at the Butter Factory.
He was followed two minutes and 15 seconds later by K. Foster. K. Flower followed after a further 30 seconds while Williams was 45 seconds further back.

Echuca Golf title to J. Phillips
The final round of the Echuca Golf championship was played on Bendigo links on Sunday with John Phillips winning from Gordon McPee, at the 19th. Excellent golf was played by both contestants, with the results impossible to forecast at any stage.
The stroke rounds were, Phillips 75, McPee 76, after conceding both players a couple of putts.
The links were in excellent condition, with plenty of run on the ball, the scrapes fast but even, and the match was in every way worthy of championship golf.

Red Cross reward for 60 years of service
Vi Denham was living at Koyuga with her husband, Ern, when she joined the Red Cross.
She’s not sure of the exact date, but thinks it was about 1940, a few years after her marriage.
On Monday, Vi’s commitment of 60 years to Red Cross was rewarded with the presentation of a gilt rosette and flowers during an afternoon tea with Red Cross colleagues, guests, Ern and family.
Vi transferred from Koyuga branch about 20 years ago, continuing her service with the Echuca branch.

Workers club and RSL join forces
The raising of the RSL flag above the Echuca Workers and Services Club marked a new era for the two organisations last week.
The decision by the executive committee of the Echuca-Moama RSL sub-branch and Echuca Workers and Services Club board of directors follows a successful four-month trial.
It’s a return home for the RSL sub-branch, which was originally housed in the function room.
The move is expected to see an improvement in services and facilities for all patrons.

Echuca Clay Target Club’s Kiara Dean has been accepted into the Bendigo Academy of Sport for shooting.
The invitation came after representing Echuca College in the Victorian School Students Finals on September 5.

A Year 9 student, Dean shot exceptionally well for her age and was offered a place in Bendigo’s Clay Target Shooting Squad despite coming in fifth place.

United in delight
This time a year ago Echuca United A grade was celebrating a Murray Netball League grand final win.
But for one family, the end result wasn’t important.
Barely seven months after surgery to remove a tumour in her brain, United’s goal defence Amy Gledhill was just thankful to be playing.
A year later and Amy has played in and won yet another premiership with the team — and the achievements don’t end there.

Schultz swoops in for big VFL season
A premiership may have been out of reach for Williamstown Football Club but that hasn’t stopped former Moama player Lachlan Schultz from enjoying a terrific first season with the club.
The Seagulls lost to the Casey Scorpions in the preliminary final of the Victorian Football League and after signing on for another two seasons Schultz is confident a flag isn’t far away.
“It was disappointing how we finished off the season,” Schultz said.
“We just weren’t good enough on the day, which cost us in the end.”
