Former Campaspe Shire Council Mayor and Western Ward councillor Greg Toll has died, at age 87.

Mr Toll was elected to council as a representative for the Western Ward in 1997, one of the first Campaspe Shire councillors voted in post-amalgamation.
Just days after he was elected, he began his fierce advocacy for his ward, seeing Gunbower and Leichville be sewered in his first 18 months on council.
He became instrumental in the replacement of four bridges across the shire and held multiple portfolios.
He served in this role until 2005, was re-elected in 2008 and chose to step away from council in November 2015.
In his time on council, he was elected as Mayor in 1998 and Deputy Mayor between 2012 and 2014.

At Campaspe Shire Council’s July meeting, Cr Adrian Weston – who worked alongside Mr Toll between 2012 and 2015 – paid tribute to Mr Toll and his contributions to council during the 15 years he served.
“Campaspe Shire expresses its sympathies on the passing of former Campaspe councillor Greg Toll and offer our sincere condolences to Greg’s family,” he said.
“Greg was passionate in his representation of communities, especially the smaller towns and farming communities, and was a tireless advocate on their behalf.”
Cr Weston spoke to the significant work Mr Toll did in the waste and energy.

Mr Toll held the waste management portfolio and delivered multiple projects in his time on council, including the Watts Working Better project, which replaced Campaspe lighting to energy-efficient LED globes.
This significantly reduced greenhouse gas emission and electricity costs to councils in the region.
“I consider Campaspe’s excellent waste services that we deliver in behalf of communities across the shire today to be the outcome of Greg’s passion and hard work in the waste sector,” Cr Weston said.
Mr Toll also focused on water in his tenure as a councillor, working as Campaspe’s representative on the Murray Darling Association, chair of the associations' region 2, and led the MDA as its national president from 2014 to 2016.
“(He) fiercely (advocated) on behalf of our communities to ensure the Murray-Darling Basin Plan was implemented fairy and kept water in our region for our collective benefit,” Cr Weston said.
“Thank you, Greg, for the time you gave serving the Campaspe people.”
Mr Toll died on July 15, 2026.
The funeral of Mr Toll will be held at Tobin Brothers Bromley Chapel in Echuca on Tuesday, July 28 at 11am.
The funeral will leave after the service for burial at Patho cemetery, Cemetery Rd, Patho.
