The group received a Campaspe Shire Council 2026 Seniors Program grant to purchase wool and shade cloth, which they are using to yarn-bomb Kyabram again this Christmas.
Kyabram Yarn Bombers co-ordinator Trish Worsfold said the project had well and truly outlasted its original scope.
“This is our seventh year,” she said.
“Something that began as a two-year project, we have continued because the people involved are of a mature age group, and they enjoy feeling as though they are still contributing something to the community.”
The group meets every second Thursday at the Kyabram Senior Citizens rooms, with a core group of 10 members.
“It is a smaller group because we have had people who are not well; we have had people whose spouses are not well,” Mrs Worsfold said.
“Some people's hands are no longer able to knit or crochet because of arthritis.”
She added that new members were welcome to join.
Despite the reduced numbers, the group's reach extends well beyond its meeting room.
Mrs Worsfold said she had visited two members in care at Tongala that morning who were still contributing.
This year's theme is Celebrating Christmas, with red, green and white decorations alongside family-friendly elements.
“There will still be some things on trees, but because we are an ageing group, we have tried to make it simple this year, so that we have stitched everything onto shade cloth, which we can then cable-tie to the poles, and it makes it easier to put up and take down,” Mrs Worsfold said.
The group also hopes retailers will assist with installation.
The group received a grant from Campaspe Shire Council to purchase materials for the project.

The Christmas yarn bombing will start appearing in Kyabram from November 28, though Mrs Worsfold noted it may roll out over the following week.
“It will possibly continue over a week, things going up and that keeps people interested as well,” she said.
Before the Christmas display goes up, the group will also mark Remembrance Day.
“We do poppies on the memorial gates and on three trees in the park for the Anzac service and the Remembrance Day service,” Mrs Worsfold said.
Kyabram Yarn Bombers also knit and crochet poppies as part of Remembrance Day.

Earlier in the year, the group contributed to Kyabram’s 150th anniversary celebrations.
“There were 20 bollards with the black and red for Kyabram and the 150 number on the bollards,” Mrs Worsfold said.
The group also replaced all 60 Christmas bollard covers at the fountain intersection, which had faded over previous seasons.
Ms Worsfold said the yarn bombing continued to draw visitors and benefit local businesses.
“Over the years, we have had enough coverage for people to come from places all over Victoria and they spend a bit of money while they are in town, which is good for the retailers,” she said.
“I've had so many people from the community saying, we are looking forward to Christmas again this year with all the yarn-bombing, so I think people have come to expect that it will be done.”
