On Thursday, November 27, RSL members were presented with two pieces of art work created by local students to honour Australian soldiers.
Year 11 students Tyler Dodan, Nathaniel Gee and Jamie Fischer created a metal silhouette of an Australian solider that has been installed on the side of the RSL building on Unitt St.
On the fence of the RSL is a painting made by Year 12 students Charlotte Van Den Driesschen and Alyssa Watson.
Tyler, who presented the pieces to members of the RSL, said the metal silhouette was a special project for him because his grandpa served in World War II, so bringing it to life through the piece brought him closer to his family’s story.
The silhouette of the soldier was created by the Year 11 VCE VM students.

While the metalwork took several weeks to complete, the students dedicated five months to careful planning and designing and pitching it to the RSL.
Teacher Ali Walsh explained the project emerged from discussions between the college and RSL about ensuring young Australians understood and honoured the sacrifices made by Anzacs.
Kyabram RSL treasurer and secretary Bob Stone said he was grateful to the college community for all their support over the years and thanked the students for their hard work in bringing this mural to life.
“These projects certainly bring a lot of awareness to, not only the school, but out in the community, about soldier stories,” Mr Stone said.
“So, what the school is doing is making a big difference.”
The art work, paying tribute to fallen soldiers, was created by Year 12 VCE VM students.
