Two months past that deadline, a revised launch date remains up in the air.
Murray River Paddlesteamers director Craig Burgess told the Riv that the launch of the Australian Star had been postponed while “technical matters” were resolved.
He said the Australian Star was going through final stages of construction, certification and commissioning.
“The current delay is not unusual for a vessel of this scale and complexity in its final commissioning phase,” Mr Burgess said.
“Our focus remains on ensuring that all regulatory, operational and guest experience standards are fully met prior to launch.”
He also clarified that speculation of a failed compliance test was inaccurate.
“As with any new vessel, a range of technical items can be identified during final commissioning, and these are being addressed as part of the standard process to ensure readiness for service,” Mr Burgess said.
In December 2025, the Riv reported final works would take two months, and see the upper deck completed and cabins fitted out.
It was also reported that 90 per cent of sailings were already sold or chartered for 2026 and bookings filling quickly for 2027.
Mr Burgess acknowledged the excitement surrounding the Australian Star and its major boost to Murray River tourism, though he could not provide a new launch date.
“Our message to the community and stakeholders is one of appreciation — we thank them for their patience and continued support as we work to bring Australian Star into service at the standard expected,” he said.
