Telstra to upgrade 4G coverage

Telstra is upgrading its mobile base station servicing Kotupna and Wyuna to improve local 4G capacity for faster downloads, smoother streaming and reduced congestion.

The upgrade works will run for seven days, beginning on-site from Monday, October 5.

During the week-long period, temporary network outages lasting up to 10 hours at a time will occur while technicians work on the mobile base station.

Temporary distruptions

Advance notifications: Telstra mobile users will get SMS alerts advising of the work coming up.

Unaffected services: NBN internet, satellite internet, PSTN landline services and non-Telstra mobile networks.

Emergency access: If the Telstra network is unavailable, compatible phones will automatically attempt to connect to 000 via another available mobile network. If your first attempt doesn't connect within five seconds, hang up and try again immediately. On further attempts, stay on the line for up to 60 seconds to give your phone the best chance to access another available network and connect your call.

Medical and safety devices: Medical and personal safety devices including fall detection systems, in-room monitors, alarm pendants and health monitoring devices using the Telstra mobile network may experience disruptions. Users should check with their service provider or manufacturer about impacts and alternative connectivity options, such as wi-fi.

Business payment terminals: EFTPOS machines relying on Telstra mobile service could be disrupted. Businesses should contact their bank or EFTPOS provider to check if their terminal can connect via NBN or wi-fi.
