Members of the senior citizens group, community members and visitors gathered at the hall on Saturday, November 8 for an official unveiling of the mural painted by Murray Ross.
The wall is a bright, stark yellow with butterflies, bees and flowers fluttering about the mural.
Mr Ross, a proud Tongala local, said he was delighted to contribute to his community by transforming the hall with his artistic talents.
He said he was inspired by a yellow wall he saw online.
“When the sun hits those buildings, it’s just magic,” Mr Ross said.
“I was hoping to be able to brighten up the building, and put a smile on the old buggers faces.”
To celebrate the mural’s theme, the opening became a delightful festival of bees and butterflies, with community members enthusiastically dressing in vibrant, cheerful colours.
The mural was officially opened by State Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh, who even joined the fun of the bee theme by getting a sparkly bee painted on his cheek.
Mr Walsh highlighted Tongala’s remarkable affinity with murals and celebrated how the town had gained widespread recognition for them.
“This (mural) just adds to the story of Tongala that you’ve got. You’re on a national map for the murals you’ve got,” Mr Walsh said.
“It attracts other people into town, and that’s what it’s about.”
