There certainly would be no arguments about this claim from any of the 400-plus mourners who farewelled the charismatic Kyabram woman at a graveside ceremony at Kyabram Cemetery last Friday.
Vale: The guard of honour at Kyabram District Health Service on Friday morning for highly respected nurse Christine Hangan.
Christine, 61, died on October 21 after a brave battle with hideous cancer over the past few months. She fought right to the finish with her renowned dignity and grit.
The superlatives rolled out by family members and guest speakers at her send-off and the legacies she left were endless and authentic.
Applause: The guard of honour at Kyabram District Health Service on Friday morning for Christine Hangan.
The people she touched in her life and at the Kyabram hospital — where her workmates called her Chrissy — for the past 37 years were a testament to a special, selfless person who endeared herself to everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her or being cared for by her.
She had the happy knack of treating people equally, no matter who they were or what they did, with love, kindness, compassion and understanding.
Only family took priority over her work.
Her sister Debbie, one of the speakers at her funeral, recalled that when they were growing up and deciding on a career path, being a truckie like her late father, John (Tracker), hadn’t been discounted.
Kyabram’s first woman truckie was an appealing idea.
There was also a thought at one stage of becoming a country singer.
But when Christine decided to pursue a nursing career, she put everything into it, and Kyabram became a much better place for it.
Christine is survived by her husband, Daryl, children, Amy, Christylee and Matt, and their families.
