The council is facilitating the drop-in session at the request of Heritage Victoria and the bid team.
The session will be held on Tuesday, May 26 from 10am to 2pm at the Rushworth Service Centre, 33 High St, Rushworth, with residents able to attend at any time.
The Victorian Goldfields World Heritage bid aims to recognise and protect the internationally significant gold rush-era landscapes, architecture and cultural heritage that shaped much of regional Victoria.
Achieving UNESCO World Heritage status has the potential to boost tourism, inject up to $500 million into regional economies, and showcase the unique history of local communities.
The listing includes historic sites in Rushworth, Whroo, Heathcote, Bendigo, Ballarat, Ararat and surrounding areas.
Mayor Daniel Mackrell said the session would give residents an opportunity to learn more about the bid and its potential impact.
“Last year’s drop‑in session was well attended and provided invaluable insights for both community members and the project team,” he said.
“This year’s session will offer updated information, visual displays and the chance for residents to ask questions in an informal setting.”
Representatives from the bid team will be available to answer questions and discuss the next stages of the nomination process, with displays, maps and brochures provided, along with light refreshments.
The session forms part of the formal engagement period for the preliminary assessment phase of the bid, with more information available at https://goldfieldsworldheritage.com.au/
