Have you got an old bicycle gathering dust around your house? Kyabram residents can now give their old bikes a new lease on life by donating them to VIVID’s bike shop as part of their UPbicycle program.

The program, which originated in Echuca, expanded to Kyabram in December 2025.
The initiative operates by accepting donated bikes and spare parts, which are then refurbished and sold back into the community at affordable prices.
“So it’s really good because then families that, you know, are finding things tough they can come and get bikes for the kids for Christmas and they might be $10,” VIVID learning manager Sue Green said.
Under the guidance of support workers, participants gain hands-on experience, learning valuable mechanical skills while repairing and refurbishing bikes for resale to the community.
Mrs Green said that for participants attending the service, not only were they building hand-eye co-ordination skills, but they were building skills in terms of learning how to take bikes apart and rebuild them.
Beyond bringing valuable skills, Mrs Green said the opportunity to give back to the community was the best part of the program, along with knowing participants had had a hand in refurbishing the bikes going out to people in need.
For donated bikes that are beyond repair, nothing goes to waste.
“Some are past the point of being able to love and bring back to life, so we will dismantle them, recycle appropriately, or they’ll go into our other programs and make things,” Mrs Green said.
Since the program’s launch in Kyabram, seven bikes have been sold and 27 remain in the shop on display, with bikes available from $10 to $50.
There is a variety of bikes to choose from in VIVID Kyabram’s showroom.
