Burnt Butter has introduced a token scheme which allows customers to vote for a community or sporting club to receive $200 in store credit.
Three groups are eligible for the donation each month, chosen by the amount of tokens in their jars.
Each month, three groups are chosen to enter the pool, with the jar that has the most tokens at the month’s end receiving the prize.
Cafe owner Jess Scoble said the initiative helps to bring an interactive element to Burnt Butter’s pre-existing community contributions.
Burnt Butter owner Jess Scoble says the scheme boosts community inclusion in the donation process.
“We already sponsor a number of local sporting clubs and charities, but this was just another incentive,” she said.
“What it does is bring in all ages because we have little kids say, ‘oh, that’s my dance club’, or older people say ‘my grandson plays there’.
“It’s purely for the people, our community, our customers, to have a say on where we should support.”
Throughout August, Lancaster Football Netball Club, Kyabram Fire Brigade and Kyabram Knights Soccer are in the running for the donation.
Ms Scoble said there was no minimum purchase amount for customers to receive a token and the cafe was open to hearing nominations for next month’s round of groups.
