Representing the Victorian Water Minister, Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp toured the project on March 29 and inspected the completed works at Nanneella Estate Primary School.
The 900-metre pipeline to supply water to Nanneella (east of Rochester), including the school, will replace the existing open channel system.
The new connection will provide better quality, more reliable water and reduce supply concerns.
The project will also allow the school to use an automatic watering system for its sports oval instead of two sprinklers.
As part of the works, two 45,000 litre tanks will be installed at the school. These tanks will be filled from the pipeline during irrigation season, securing year-round water for the staff and students. The open dam on the school grounds will be filled in.
Mr Gepp said the pipeline would provide reliable water for the area.
“The project is delivering a great outcome for the local community, including farms and the school, ensuring we get the most out of our water supply,” he said.
The improvements are part of the $177.5 million modernisation project funded by the Federal Government and delivered by the Victorian Government and G-MW.
