A recent charity auction held by Goulburn-Murray Water’s Infrastructure Delivery Services division saw staff walk away with everything from a car service to a footy signed by West Coast Eagle, and Tongala star, Harley Reid.
The auction raised $2700 in donations for the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
The funding will support nearly 70 sick children, helping them to access to programs such as Starlight Express Rooms and Captain Starlight visits, which offer young patients and their families a much-needed escape from the emotional challenges of hospital life.
IDS general manager Alan Shea said the team had been donating to Starlight for years, saying it was a great way for staff to support the charity.
“The foundation provides incredible support for seriously ill children and young people,” he said.
“We’ll keep providing that support each year through the annual auction event.”
G-MW is also demonstrating the power of small contributions through its recent ‘can-for-cash’ initiative, turning 10-cent containers into valuable funds for the Australian Cancer Research Foundation.

Over the past 12 months GM-W business support partner Ceara Klassen has spearheaded the charitable efforts at the Casey St office in Tatura, successfully processing over 1100 items at the refund site.
It started with just Miss Klassen collecting cans from the office’s recycling bin.
Miss Klassen said she wanted to start the fundraising effort to support the great work the ACRF did.
“This cause is very close to my heart,” Miss Klassen said.
“A number of my loved ones have been impacted by cancer, including my grandfather who has passed away.”
Miss Klassen is now collaborating with fellow G-MW staff members to explore the possibility of expanding the ‘Cans for a Cause’ initiative by setting up donation bins across multiple offices, fostering a wider community impact.
