A quilt is a story made one stitch at a time, and for Shepparton Show Society and CWA member Gwenda Metzke, her handcrafted 150-year commemorative quilt is filled with stories.

Stories that showcase 150 years of what makes the Shepparton Show so special.
Taking around four months to complete, the quilt will be gifted to the society at the opening event of show weekend.
Gwenda said it was lovely to create something for the show committee and hoped it would be cherished for years to come.
“To actually give something to the show like this is very special,” she said.
“Hopefully it represents as much as I could of the 150 years of the show.”
In the spirit of many hands making light work, much like it takes to bring the show together, Gwenda said she had help from her sister and friends to pull the project together, including stitching on the squares.
The brightly coloured quilt features specially made show ribbons and an array of special and sentimental elements that reflect the show’s history.
Things like fruit, a Ferris wheel, animals and old paper clippings from past shows beautifully complete the quilt, which will soon hang in the society’s building.
However, after Gwenda hands over her masterpiece, she will be busy helping the CWA ladies in the kitchen throughout the show weekend.
Gwenda and the CWA team run a food stall at the McIntosh Centre, serving fresh sandwiches, slices and scones, with Gwenda making the scones fresh in the kitchen next door.
“I make the scones hot off the press, and the sandwiches are made there that morning,” she said.
“We’ve added to the show by being part of it with our good basic foods and helping the show run as a country agricultural show.
“I hope I do get out of the kitchen though at some stage.
“It’s going to be an amazing show with lots of exciting things happening, which I hope everyone comes along and really enjoys. It’s a very special year.”
