Kerrins told the Free Press that the league currently expected the competition to begin as scheduled on April 18.
“At this stage we are still going ahead with the start of the season,” he said.
“We are still receiving updates and information as it comes to hand, we will probably discuss it further in the next 48 hours given recent statements from (Victorian premier) Daniel Andrews.”
Andrew declared a state of emergency for Victoria on Monday morning.
Kerrins said the league were also seeking advice from the AFL regarding community football.
“There is a lot to consider,” he said.
“When you have all participants at the same time from two clubs means more than 300 people, but they won’t all be at the venue at the same time, so we are looking for confirmation as to what constitutes 500 people.”
Kerrins said he wants clubs to continue to prepare for the season as normal, though with extra attention paid towards hygiene.
“We want our clubs to keep working,” he said.
“Make sure they focus on their own safety, if someone is unwell stay away, but otherwise just keep doing what you do and get ready for a great season of football and netball.”
