Playing as Kyabram’s ruckman in the 2025 Goulburn Valley League senior grand final, Herbert was a standout central presence in his side’s 13.14 (92) to 8.14 (62) triumph over Rochester.
For his efforts in the game, he was awarded the AFL Vic Country Medal, the best-on-ground nod adjudged by the GVL grand final match officials.
On top of his centre clearance and disposal work, it was obvious from the jump that Herbert had the Midas touch when he booted the Bombers’ fourth major at the end of the quarter.
“It’s absolutely unbelievable mate, its the best feeling you’ll ever have,” Herbert said reflecting on the match.

“The game went well, we got it on our terms early, and we just took it from there.
“An awesome four-quarter effort by the boys.”
Ever humble, Herbert highlighted that he couldn’t have won the medal, let alone the flag without his teammates.
“(The AFL Vic Country Medal) means a lot to be given it, but, I can’t do it without all the boys, so it’s good,” he said.

“It’s been a big season, we started in November–we’ve just been grinding and grinding all year and working hard, and now it’s finally paid off.”
Still soaking in the lustre of ultimate GVL glory, Herbert was left speechless as he looked upon the sea of black and white that had flooded Deakin Reserve.
“It’s just unbelievable, there’s nothing better than this,” he said.
“To be honest, I’m over the moon and at a loss for words.”
