The Kyabram local last Sunday was in action in his home town, umpiring a Goulburn Valley League qualifying final between Kyabram and Echuca in what was a special milestone.
It was the 500th senior game Moore has umpired in the Goulburn Valley, Murray, Kyabram and Picola leagues.
It’s a milestone he is naturally proud of, taking 23 years to accomplish from when he started blowing the whistle in 2001, initially as a young teenage boundary umpire.
Moore said he was introduced to umpiring by Vaughan Sidebottom, the son of legendary Goulburn Murray umpire Greg Sidebottom.
Moore was a natural and respected umpire from the first ball he bounced and he has already officiated in 15 GVL grand finals.
Now 40, Moore has also been immersed in the umpiring scene in different roles during his journey as a man in white.
He is the current president of the GV Umpires Association and its director of coaching.
Moore has good advice for any would-be budding umpires.
“Go do it, you won’t regret it,” he said.
And what’s the future hold for Moore the umpire?
“I really don’t know, but I’ll keep going at the moment as long as the body holds up,” he said.
