Just six years after winning four flags, finishing runners-up twice and claiming a state record for the most wins in succession in a seven-year period from 2013 to 2019, the Bombers look to be building another dominant side which could kick off another golden area for the club this Sunday at Deakin Reserve, Shepparton.
Comparing teams from different eras can be a dangerous pastime and a question which can’t be answered accurately.
But this current Kyabram side has the foundations to be a power in the league over the next few years due to its age groups and structures.
Along with defender wiz Jason Morgan, Kaine Herbert, Mick Mattingly, Tom Holman, Zac Norris, Liam Ogden and Jake Parkinson are others entering the veteran stages of their football careers, but still have some good years still left in them.
At the age of 39 Morgan defies Father Time with an arrogance.
He is right up there in the best handful of defenders ever to pull on a Kyabram jumper. Arguably the best ever.
Ogden is also getting towards the end of a stellar career and is one of the best small men to pull on a Kyabram jumper in the modern era.
Herbert adjusted from the Kyabram league where he two two McNamara medals to the more upbeat Goulburn Valley League without a hiccup and has been one of the most consistent players Kyabram has had in recent years.
But many of the current Kyabram players are just entering the prime years of their footballing lives which is the main reason for the confidence of Kyabram’s immediate future.
Archie Watt, Tony Depasquale, Charlie Barnett, Nic Jephson, Oscar Dixon, Bohden Learmonth, Angus Scoble and Tom Burnett are just starting their senior careers and all are above average young players for their ages.
Then there is the uncanny Brad Whitford, Riley Ironside, Josh Dillon, Cooper Vick, Coby McCarthy, Jack Sheldon, Jack Russell and skipper Aidan Robinson all in their prime with plenty of good years still left.
Whether it’s with Kyabram is yet to unfold.
Current Kyabram joint coaches Corey Carver and Kaine Herbert deserve a lot of the credit for creating a winning culture in their two years holding the coaching reins of the club and can take a big pat on the back for the Bombers rise to a power again.
Whether it gets even better this season will be known about 5pm this Sunday, but things in Bomberland are pretty rosy at the moment no matter what happens.
