Mid-Week & Weekend Pennant Round-Up
Hold tight - we’re checking permissions before loading more content
Mid-Week Pennant resumed on Tuesday following the Christmas break. In Round 11, the A1s were in action at home against Corowa Civic. The A2s also hosted Wodonga, while the B2s travelled to neighbouring club Mulwala. We will report on the results from Round 11 next week.
The first round of Weekend Pennant, scheduled for Saturday 17 January, was cancelled. This decision was appropriate given the logistical challenges posed by the devastating bushfires affecting Northeast Victoria and the fact that many in the region have other priorities at this time.
In place of pennant, an intra-club practice session was held at the Golf Club. All green fees, totalling $510, were donated to the bushfire appeal. With the cancellation of pennant, all sides shared the points for the round.
Round 12 this week is uncertain, with a forecast top temperature of 39°C on Saturday. Games may again be cancelled. The scheduled fixtures are:
A1s – away at Rutherglen
A3s – home vs Beechworth at the Golf Club
B1s – away at Mulwala
B2s – away at Wangaratta

Ovens & Murray Singles at YMGCR
YMGCR recently hosted the Ovens & Murray Regional Singles on Sunday. Club members who represented the Golf Club with distinction included Hayden Beca, who achieved a thrilling one-shot victory over noted Yarrawonga and O&M stalwart Garry Sanders. This was a particularly impressive win, as it is Hayden’s first-year playing bowls.
Ian Brimblecombe also performed strongly, winning his sectional rounds and progressing to the next stage of the tournament.
Until next week, good bowling!
Club Mulwala Bowls
Welcome back everybody after the mid-season break and I hope you all enjoyed the time off.
Unfortunately, the return was delayed due to impact of the bushfires on some of our communities. Saturday pennant was called off midweek so here at Club Mulwala we had a good turn up to a intra club practice game.
At the moment Tuesday pennant is being played due to the fires abating which is good news.
Over the break our singles finalists have been decided with the men’s, Andy Lefevre vs Les Spencer and ladies, Kay Smith vs Bev Hulm to be played shortly.
The Mixed Pairs have begun after good entries. Wednesday night Twilight Bowls have begun with Club members, new bowlers and barefoot bowlers wishing to learn more about the game all invited.
Meet time is 6pm for a 6.30 start.
Barefoot bowls has been going great guns with many visitors taking up the opportunity to have a fun night out.
Those wishing to take up the game and become a member of a fun club the yearly fee of $100 with free club shirt is still available. Stay safe out there and stay cool in the heat.
