The 2pm-ers were looking to give one of their favourite sons, Ned Connell, a 21st to remember. A couple of guest appearances from Ned’s older brother, Liam, and ‘Kingy’ Lawless had the boys revved up and ready to go but it was Kattie who got the jump kicking 4.4 to Tungamah’s 0.2 in the first quarter. Justin Saunders’ attempts to create some drive from the halfback line were unfortunately thwarted when he tried to fend off an opponent, sparking a brouhaha.
The Bears were kicking with the wind in the second quarter and worked their way back into the game on the back of some solid defence from the key backs in Lawless, Miller and Ford. ‘Jaydo’ Arnold continues to impress, playing like a 150-gamer. Thompson, again playing out of the goal square, provided a powerful option kicking two maximums to cut the deficit to 11 points at halftime.
There was no love lost between the sides in the third quarter with the umpires showing more yellows than a Queenslander’s fridge, sending off five players. The extra number and some wasted opportunities in front of goal meant Kattie extended their lead to 19 points at the final change. ‘Patches’ Bourke did his best Avicii impression, spinning the magnets around to try to win the game.
The moves worked well with the Bears having five pings at the big sticks but the inaccuracy again cost them, only being able to convert two majors and falling short by eight points. The Bears now find themselves in a precarious position, sitting eighth with three wins and three losses.

The Kattie boys would have been travelling over eager to take on the percentage boosting witches hats that have formerly been the ’Tunga’ twos team. Unfortunately for them, the tractors are being parked up as sowing season comes to an end and players start to roll back in. Brady Hayes Transport was in full flight, hauling ample amounts of leather across Jubilee Park. Until the big rig cracked the head and had to be hauled off to the mechanic to replace four teeth and nurse a concussion.
Despite the forwards’ lightweight frames they were able to remain nimble, presenting well and giving themselves many opportunities in front of the big sticks. Cam Nye’s prolific skills were on display Saturday as the man took home the mug award for his seven-goal haul.
Jake Henderson clunked one on the goalline and, presumably confused, went back and decided to drop it on the opposite for some theatricals - with the hand eye coordination of Ray Charles he punted it into the goalpost. Dimmy was back showing glimpses of his best, although he may have lost a step as the head got caught in the action a few too many times. The Beatons have produced yet another superstar for the TFNC, this time in Tyler. I assume that will be the last game we’ll see Tyler play in the early timeslot.
There were a couple of notable returns, which was good to see - not what I’d call a ‘runner’ but the brisk walker S. Lidgerwood returned to duty. Was also great to see ‘Humpty Dumpty’ Holcombe back on the paddock after his fall!

As the chillier weather threatened to dampen our day, it didn’t take long for the fourths to warm up. Our top-age players showed us all what years of playing together can do, as they worked seamlessly moving the ball down the field. Jett was providing a great focal point in the forward line, displaying stable hands and accurate kicking. As the game progressed and our lead increased, the younger cohort of players got a real opportunity to show us all what to look forward to in the future.
Our backline players, when it did come their way, saw kids like Cooper, Zade and Billy K demonstrate their skills and teamwork. Luke was getting plenty of the ball this week, as he ducked and weaved past his opponents and Harley proved himself with some amazing smothers.
Our teamwork really stood out and it was great to see the older boys sharing the ball around to make sure everyone was included and got the chance to get in on the action. The Katamatite kids battled tirelessly and did their club proud. Well done, everyone. Awards: J. Bamford - Bamford Builders; X Chessells - Tungamah Shop; R. Johnson - Doyles Socks; D. Cummins - Intents Fishing.

Tungamah 28 lost to Katamatite 53
Unfortunately, not our day with Katamatite taking control of the game from the beginning. The girls continued to soldier on even through the we had no luck, a lot of unforced errors and allowed Katamatite to dictate our game.
Penny headed down to defence and had an impact in the circle, getting some tips and taps. With the constant complaining from, Maddi telling the team she had been practicing her goal shooting, she was slotted into GA with four minutes and made a huge impact - rebounding with extreme enthusiasm and even attempting to shoot again, which might have gone through the minis goal ring if she was lucky.
It was evident that we were carrying a couple of injuries which shows - without players being at full strength it takes a toll on the team. We look to being back to 100 per cent next week when we take on Blighty. Awards: P Thompson – Jaycees; C Lawless - Wingates; M Cheek - Rich Glen.

The B Grade girls were on fire, showing off their incredible skills and teamwork. They dominated the court, swiftly moving the ball around and leaving the opposition in awe. A few changes in the second quarter opened the score - Tungamah 26 to Katty 19.
The game got very physical, but our girls didn't back down. In the second half, Katamatite fought back fiercely, determined to close the gap and going into the final change 34-31. But the Tunga girls stood strong, defending their one-goal lead with unwavering determination.
The tension was palpable, but in the end victory was ours! It was a triumph of grit, passion and teamwork. Awards: M Thomas - Free as a Bird (Marissa came on in the second quarter and hit goals from every angle); H Kavanagh - Miss Dolly (Hannah ran the centre the whole game, moving the ball freely down the court and stopping Katamatite’s running game). Well done, team, for a thrilling win!

Tungamah 39 defeated Katamatite 29
This week we welcomed Sharelle to our team. We spoke about starting strong and all players responded from the first centre pass. The Bears won every quarter and, even with a few position changes during the game, showed real team support and made sure to back each other up.
Danielle stood tall against strong defenders and was making shots from all around the ring. Tayla worked so hard to always be an option. Beth had her work cut out but made sure they were putting into practice what we have been working on at training. A strong win. Awards: D Sidebottom – Players Player and Free as a Bird; B Tobin - Ricky D’s; T Bate - Rich Glen.

Tungamah 24 lost to Katamatite 28
The girls came out strongly and played with intent and heart, fighting for every ball and applying brilliant defensive pressure across the court. Our shooters worked well, moving the ball into attack and finishing off with some beautiful goals from unbelievable distances - especially from Bella Lonergan, with 100 per cent goaling accuracy for her first time in shooter!
In the end Katamatite proved too strong but our girls should be very proud of the way they played and handled themselves on the court. We will continue the hard work at training as we are seeing great results. Awards: J Ralph - Miss Dolly; B Lonergan - Rich Glen; C Sinclair – Pilates.

Another beautiful day for netball and the 17s did not disappoint. With a couple of injuries, the list was down to 10, which allowed for more court time for all involved and rotations to try new positions. Everyone took their opportunities and gave it their all. The team adapted well to the many changes that were made and embraced any mistakes made, to learn from them. A great team effort. Awards: M. Looby - Jaycee’s; C Cummins - Tungamah Shop.

The girls came out strong to gain the lead at the end of the first quarter. Their determination and persistence with resetting play as the ball made its way down the court, was great to see. Defence and midcourt worked well together, taking their time when they had the ball to ensure it made its way to our goalers who converted. The team’s hard work at training during the week paid off. Super team effort, girls. Awards: B Buerckner - Rich Glen; L Payne - Bamford Builders; E Attwood – Yarra Fish and Chips; P Bamford - Tungamah Shop.
