The Under-10s played an even game against the more experienced Strikers, holding their own in defence against the Strikers’ attack. Playing one short, Benalla’s team play improved throughout the game. New player Sophie Littler positioned well and scored the first goal, which was sadly right after the siren. Flynn Dowell was relentless in attack, passing to Sophie who ran through for Benalla’s first proper goal. Teddy Thannhauser ran hard all game and hit a fantastic ball through three players to score from just inside the half line. In the end, the teams finished 3-3.

Umpire best-and-fairest votes to: Sophie Littler: 3; Teddy Thannhauser: 2; Flynn Dowell: 1.
Under-12s v SYC
The Under-12s played a hard game against the strong SYC team. Abbie had multiple attacks on goal, with one shot kicked away by the goalie at the last second. Throughout the game, Abbie, new player Hayden Littler and William Keen ran the ball up field to the attacking end, working their way through the defence almost all the way to the goal. In defence, Darcy Mort helped clear the ball out of the goal circle to remove the danger. Though playing a fair and even game, Benalla lost 12-0.
Umpire best-and-fairest votes to: Steele Adams: 3; Bella Gillies: 2; William Keen: 1.
Under-16B Orange v Echuca:
Benalla’s Under-16B Orange team worked together against the tough SYC to remove the ball from the goal and deliver it into the attacking half of the field. In the forward line, Brodie Rawlings, Liam Carroll and Xavier Karmer displayed great teamwork, passing and backing each other up on the attack. The game remained close, as each team scored a lot of goals. Goalie Alexander stopped the attack of SYC many times, which made the score close in the end, SYC winning 9-10.

Umpire best-and-fairest votes to: Brodie Rawlings: 3; Liam Carroll: 2; and Amity Hurd: 1.
Under-16B Black v Strikers
Benalla Under-16B Black went up against the fierce team from Strikers. Goalie Annie often stopped the attack from Strikers, which prevented multiple further goals from being scored. Lockie, Jack and Luci played in attack, allowing the ball to travel up the field to challenge the defence of Strikers. While attacking, Angus scored two team goals, then Cael scored after a magnificent solo run up the entire field. After fighting hard, Benalla lost 18:3.

Under-16A v SYC
Goalie Noah was put under pressure by SYC but was able to defend the goal by passing and kicking the ball back to Benalla’s midfield. Zander was able to use the momentum of these rebounds to push the ball forward, scoring three goals this week! Angus stepped out of goals this week, completing many runs from the back line to the forward line and was able to convert a solo run into a goal.
Caleb Gillies joined the line-up this week, connecting well with forwards Erin and Jacinta, who controlled the ball in the midfield before passing it off and moving to the posts for the second and third attempts. Olly successfully converted the only challenge of the game during a one-on-one with the SYC goalie.
Goals: Zander Gillies: 3; Olly Gillies: 2; and Angus Woodward: 1
Votes: Olly Gillies: 3; Angus Woodward: 2; Caleb Gillies: 1
Women v SYC
SYC came out strong, working together with multiple runs on goals, where they were met by goalie Prue who defended strongly. Ebony Jennings and Mel Gillies played in full-back, stopping the attack and removing any threat from SYC outside the goal. Within the half line, Sophie, Amber and Lee initiated the attack on goal, allowing the attacking line to progress onwards. They came close multiple times, even sometimes unfortunately hitting the goal posts and the sides of the goal.
Working together within the front line, Jacinta and Heidi hit between each other to work around SYC, this allowed the attack to advance onwards. Siobhan moved up to inner and wing position to help carry the ball up or along the line to further move the game along. Appearing the stronger team, sadly Benalla lost 2-0 to two late goals.
Umpire votes: Amber Armstrong: 3; Sophie Morton: 2; and Jacinta Woodward: 1
B Men v SYC:
Benalla’s men also played a close game against SYC. The ball stayed in motion within the middle of the field, tussling between the defence of Benalla and the attack of SYC. Breakouts allowed Olly, Andrew and Noah to have a run on goals. Some of these attempts succeeded, with Andrew scoring then Noah finally beating the goalie with a fantastic high flick.
Benalla’s defence was challenged multiple times, with Charlie, Latham and Joel halting the attack from SYC and changing the direction of the ball. Throughout the middle of the field, Noah and Marty lead the attack, altering direction to challenge SYC. In the end, the close game led to SYC winning 3-2. Goals: Andrew Glazzard: 1; Noah Gillies: 1.
