This includes a new signing campaign and training concept, which Timmis plans to implement starting this weekend.
Timmis will lead a training day this Saturday, at a venue to be announced.
It will be followed by a player lunch at the Sportsman’s Arms Hotel in Deniliquin, for a season launch and bonding session.
The signature training concept Timmis is keen to introduce is the “triple H sessions” - highlight, hardship and hero.
The sessions were installed by Damien Hardwick, which Richmond used at the start of 2017 and helped spark their AFL premiership dynasty.
“It brings out something you don’t know about your teammate,” Timmis said.
“It is based in truth that helps break down the walls between people and provides that extra bond.”
Timmis hopes to get players as well as club people involved.
“The sessions develop trust, understanding between people at the club. If you have that extra bond between players, it brings them a bit closer together, they might run that little bit harder to support their teammate in the contest and help outside of footy as well.”
Timmis says he played under the triple H concept at Dromana Football Netball Club, under coach Ricky Johnson, and saw the benefits.
“I’ve found it empowering. Everything is up to the individual.
“It empowers the player to do something for themselves rather than just instructing and expecting them to do it.”
Along with innovative training ideas, Timmis has hatched a player signing plan to make the club competitive this year.
He is working on signing some promising Sudanese players, with whom he made connections during his time in Shepparton and Melbourne.
The target recruits are athletic players with inspirational backgrounds who may be able to inspire a country football team and add some numbers to the playing group.
Expected to be introduced to the club this weekend, in the hopes they will sign up for the season, are Chotty Puok, Majok Puok, Deng Andrew and Makuei Andrew.
Some of the prospective players are relatives of Mac Andrew, the number five pick in the 2021 AFL draft who is signed to the Gold Coast Suns.
“Deng and Makuei Andrew are the oldest brothers of Mac Andrew,” Timmis said.
“Makuei is around 6’7”, and Deng around 6’2“, but regardless it would be great to bring them to the club.”
The coach is excited about the side’s ‘blank canvas’ ahead of the season and is still looking for new players.
The club are also still looking for under-17 players who will receive free registration when they are accompanied by a paid parent club membership, thanks to the sponsorship of Ash Bain.
