Participants this year could choose the traditional Woolworths outfit or the colours of Melbourne’s two Big Bash League teams, the Melbourne Renegades or Melbourne Stars.
The participants will spend two months involved in skills training with the Kyabram Redbacks Cricket Club and the Kyabram Fire Brigade Cricket Club.
The Redbacks will field two Under-10 teams in the Shepparton competition.
Its two Under-12 teams and one Under-14 team will play in the Goulburn Murray competition.
The club’s new Kyabram Recreation Reserve nets are expected to be in use for the first time this week, in the lead up to the delayed start to the season. All three nets have been replaced, creating a much safer environment than was the case in the 20-year-old nets.
The Redbacks B-grade team will open the season on the recreation reserve on November 12, with the A-grade team at Deakin Reserve.
Out of reach: Taelen Harding strikes an unusual pose during the Friday evening event, which finished with a colour run for Blasters and junior cricket participants.
Rising fast: Billy Watts is forced onto the back foot at Kyabram Fire Brigade Cricket Club’s junior blasters program on Friday at Northern Oval.
